Go World subscription and back issues

  • Subscription details, currently available print back issues, and cover art from selected issues of Go World are given on Kiseido’s Go World page.
     
  • GW 1 to 108 (including index) available on DVD in PDF format as a three-DVD set called Go World Archive on Kiseido Digital. The GWA Tables of Contents page lists all 108 front covers.



 
Other Go World and related indexes

  • The first Go World index (covering GW 1 to 26), compiled by John Power, is to be found in GW 10, 16, 22, and 26.
     
  • A classified GW index solely based on the tables of contents, a project started by the late American Go Association Archivist, Craig Hutchinson; it is located as a database interface on Jan van der Steen’s GoBase.org site.
     
  • The Go Review Index (the sister index of Go World Index), compiled by Jochen Fassbender, is available as a PDF file. This index is to the quarterly magazine Go Review (covering GR 1 to 16), published by the Nihon Ki-in in the 1970s. It does not include Go Monthly Review.
     
  • A notation-based fuseki index, compiled by the late American Go Association Archivist, Craig Hutchinson, covers all games and fuseki studies in the American Go Journal, American Go Newsletter, Japanese Go Journal, Go Review, and Go World.
     
  • The Index of Artists, part of Kiseido’s web pages “Japanese Prints and the World of Go” by William Pinckard, is useful for identifying artists and their works, including many of those given as Go World cover art.



 
Other Go World-style sources complementing Go World

  • The Go Player’s Almanac 2001, compiled and edited by Richard Bozulich (Tokyo: Kiseido, 2001). Contains, amongst others, comprehensive chapters on history, rules, players, tournaments, and terminology. There is also a 1992 edition of the Almanac.
     
  • Tournament Go 1992: A Yearbook of Japanese Professional Go, compiled and translated by John Power (Power Publications, 1996). Fills in a gap in a period of enforced inactivity for Go World.
     
  • Ranka Yearbook: The Bulletin of the International Go Federation, annually published by the IGF since 1985. Mainly covers World Amateur events. Quite a few professional games from international tournaments are also given.
     
  • Go Monthly Review and Go Review, published by the Nihon Ki-in from 1961 to 1973 (GMR) and 1973 to 1977 (GR). Is the predecessor of Go World.
